Walks Most Weekends – Meetings on the first & third Wednesday of the Month: The Launceston Walking Club

WALKS MOST WEEKENDS – MEETINGS ON THE FIRST & THIRD WEDNESDAY OF THE MONTH: THE LAUNCESTON WALKING CLUB
Where: Meetings at Room 16/17, Newstead College, 30 Cypress Street, Newstead
Our trips meet at the Leigh Rodman car park off Thistle Street West, West Launceston
When: Walks most weekends – Meetings on the first & third Wednesday of the month at 7:30pm.
Details: We are a local community bushwalking club of around 150-200 members, based in the Launceston.
Our Objectives are to encourage and promote bushwalking and other allied outdoor activities, support the conservation of scenic areas, flora and fauna, support the maintenance of walking tracks and foster social activity amongst club members.
Our club caters for varying age groups both in the bush and socially. We plan walks which range from easy day walks to harder, longer walks involving overnight camping. Weekend walks usually depart on Friday nights, whilst day walks are usually held on Sundays. For some walks a high level of fitness is required, as is experience in alpine conditions. For other walks a fair level of fitness and a degree of enthusiasm is all that is required.
We aim to help members develop an appreciation of wilderness and scenic areas, make friends with members who have similar interests, gain the necessary skills to enjoy bushwalking safely and visit some of Tasmania's most scenic spots.
Walks are held on most weekends throughout the year. Most trips use the Club's own bus while Trip Coordinators organise cars on other trips. There is a very active mountain biking programme on our calendar with rides ranging from easy to technical and our experienced members can always help and guide the newer and less experienced members to this adventurous activity. We have a very active Social Committee which always has something on the go, especially on those weekends when there is only a day walk planned. We enjoy bush dancing, film nights, progressive dinners, and meals at the local pub. It is suggested that prospective new members come along to one of our Wednesday night meetings before their first walk.
