Woman, 78, sexually assaulted in NSW

A 78-year-old woman has forced a man out of her unit after she woke to him allegedly sexually assaulting her in northern NSW.

The 27-year-old broke into the Tweed Heads unit early on Sunday morning, assaulted the woman and stole jewellery on his way out, police allege.

He was arrested on Wednesday and is due to face Byron Bay Local Court on Thursday charged with offences including aggravated break-and-enter, sexual assault and stealing.
