Alleged fox sighting near Waratah

A caller has contacted Tasmanian Broadcasters to report a live fox sighting just outside of Waratah earlier today.

Caller Shane says he saw the fox cross a road and pick up some road kill about 40 metres in front of him.

Foxes are enormously damaging to the state's native wildlife and members of the public are urged to report fox sightings or evidence of fox activity to the Invasive Species Hotline on 1300 369 688.

According to the Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water and Environment website, "no physical evidence of fox activity has been collected in Tasmania since July 2011 and it is hoped that fox eradication has been successful".

Listen to Shane describing his alleged fox encounter with Martin Agatyn on Across the Coast.
