Early election tip

Should Labor really start cracking forward in the opinion polls it's anticipated the Tasmanian Government will call an early election.

Bryan Green's quit politics after 19 years and the party's chosen Rebecca White as its new leader.

Political Scientist Richard Herr expects the Liberal Government will be monitoring the voting mood very closely.

"Certainly there's speculation that the poll would shortly after the budget (expected in May) which would be a bit more than half a year early depending on how soon after the budget they went, it's very likely if Rebecca White gets a strong bounce."

He believes if Labor's momentum builds, it could be a real chance to reclaim government at the next election.

"The last sort of polls that we had it looked like Labor was going to claw back 2 seats, that would've given them 9, picking up another seat or 2 makes minority government almost certain and with the Western Australian experience could put them in with a shot, if there was a big swing, to the possibility of governing in their own right."
