Lost bushwalker spends night on Cradle Mountain

Overland Track Past Cradle Mountain

A 27 year old female hiker has spent the night on the Overland Track after accidently becoming seperated from her walking party.

Police Search and rescue located the woman at around 2am this morning in an area known as The Cirque.

She was treated for mild hypothermia and provided shelter for the night before being taken to Water Valley Hut.

Due to poor weather conditions, the Westpac Rescue Helicopter could not fly into the area until 1pm this afternoon.

Temperatures had dropped to below zero overnight with snow to 600meters.

Tasmania Police is urging all hikers to pay close attention to weather forecasts and take appropriate precautions.
