AFL Match Review Panel – Round 17

AFL Match Review Panel – Round 17

DUSTIN Martin remains eligible for the Brownlow Medal but will walk a tightrope for the rest of the season after being offered fines for separate incidents in Richmond’s win over Brisbane at Etihad Stadium.

The Match Review Panel has hit the star midfielder with a $1500 sanction for making unnecessary contact with an open hand to the face of Lions tagger Nick Robertson and $1000 for rough conduct on Lewis Taylor.

If Martin was to be charged by the MRP again during the home-and-away season and found guilty, he would be suspended, ruling him ineligible for the game’s highest individual honour.

Robertson has also been cited twice, earning a one-week suspension for headbutting Tiger captain Trent Cotchin and a $1500 fine for kneeing Martin.

Melbourne looks set to be without veteran Bernie Vince for crucial meetings with Port Adelaide and Melbourne after he was offered a two-week ban for striking Adelaide foward Eddie Betts.

To make matters worse for the former Crow, he has also been fined $1000 for rough conduct on former teammate Richard Douglas.

$1000 fines have also been offered to Adelaide skipper Taylor Walker and the Power’s Jackson Trengove for striking Demon veteran Jordan Lewis and North Melbourne defender Scott Thompson respectively.
