'Shots fired' in overnight Sydney assault

Inner Sydney residents have reported hearing gunshots during the early-morning assault of an elderly man in Darlinghurst.

The 76-year-old was found with a non-life threatening head injury outside a unit block in Barcom Avenue, near Oxford St, about 4.30am on Tuesday and was taken to hospital in a stable condition.

Police have been searching the area and have urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
