Authorities say time to get ready for coming bushfire season

Fire authorities have met in Launceston to plan for the approaching bushfire season.

Representatives from the Tasmanian Fire Service, SES, Parks and Wildlife and meteorologists have gathered to plan and discuss the coming danger period which is being predicted to be ‘normal’.

“That sounds relatively benign, but it does mean that fires will impact on communities,” Tasmanian Fire Service Commander Jeremy Smith said.

That translates to up to four potentially damaging bushfires to impact the state, as well as up to four days of total fire bans.

Residents are being urged to get organised now and have a bushfire plan, as well as doing work around homes to reduce the risk from fire.
