The Tasmania Fire Service says two fires that engulfed homes in Launceston on the weekend destroying one and causing significant damage to another were deliberately lit.
The first fire broke out just before midnight on Saturday night, causing damage to a house on Mayfield Street at Mayfield.
Shortly after midnight, firefighters were called to another blaze on nearby Box Street, where a house was gutted.

No one was injured in either fire.
At this stage there’s no information to connect the two fires.
Police are continuing to investigate.
