More than five thousand people are expected at this Friday’s official lighting of the Christmas tree in Launceston’s Brisbane Street Mall.
Council staff have been busy putting up hundreds of decorations across the CBD in preparation of the big event which is expected to take place around 8.30pm.
The 11 metre tree will include 7-thousand decorative lights and two thousand baubles.
There’ll also be 100 additional street banners displayed across the city.
“The lighting of the Christmas tree is hands down the most popular family event in the city centre each year and is a staple for thousands of Launceston residents,” Mayor Matthew Garwood said.
“Each year we review the event to see what we can learn to improve it for next time and we’ll be implementing some learnings from last year to make this event even better.
“What I love about the lighting of the Christmas tree is that it’s an event where the spirit of our community shines through.”
