A number of trees in City Park in Launceston are set to be removed in the interests of community safety.
Launceston Mayor Matthew Garwood said the council is responding to community concern after a number of recent falls.
It’s believed at least three will be removed after being identified as a risk.
Cr Garwood said Launceston Council will continue to use ‘best practice’ to assess trees across the municipality, as part of its usual routine, but has also held discussions about using X-ray to carry out examinations of suspect trees.
“In the coming weeks there will be some reduction in trees,” he said.
“Some of these big, old and beautiful are struggling with the current elements that they’ve had to deal with over time.
“At the moment we’re just focusing on City Park but there will be a further, extensive report that will continue to work through for all of the trees in our network.”
