An animal welfare group is urging Launceston councillors to put the welfare of City Park’s macaque monkeys first when they vote later today on their future.
The council will consider a management plan which includes sterilising its male monkey population as it looks to deal with overcrowding and a lack of genetic biodiversity.
The Australian branch of World Animal Protection is calling on councillors to vote in the best interests of the Japanese macaques.
