It’s hoped premises on St John Street will be up and operating as Launceston’s new regional transit centre by May this year.
Almost two years after the transit centre at Cornwall Square was closed down, the state government is seeking council approval to convert the building at 25 St John Street, which was earmarked for development 12 months ago.
Intercity bus travellers have been forced to use a converted shipping container on Charles Street as part of a makeshift arrangement.

The new centre will include indoor seating for up to 71 people, as well as ticket sales counters and luggage storage areas.
