Nurse’s union prepares for Industrial Commission

The nurses union is preparing for a visit to the Tasmanian Industrial Commission tomorrow over what it says are government workforce freezes across the state.

The union will gather in Launceston today to discuss what it says is a chronic understaffing problem at our public hospitals, which the government promised to address last year.

It says while the Health Department maintains that there are only just over 100 vacancies statewide, the reality is far worse.

It says the nursing and midwifery workforce is being reduced to meet the government’s efficiency dividend and to meet budget targets.
