“Teething issues” for Metro electric buses

Metro Tasmania has provided an update on its zero emission electric bus trial currently underway in Launceston.

Metro’s trial of the new Custom Denning Element 2 Battery Electric Buses launched late last year as part of the statewide move to net zero greenhouse emissions, or lower, by 2030.

CEO Katie Cooper says the trial is experiencing some “teething” issues, but said this was not unexpected and all part of the reason why the company was conducting the two-year trial.

“The issues are mainly associated with software issues and supporting components,” she said.

“Importantly, there were no safety issues for staff or customers.

“Metro is working closely with the manufacturer to resolve as soon as possible.”

Ms Cooper said these matters were being rectified and the service will recommence when the matters had been fixed.

She said Metro would continue to keep customers updated.
