Foo Fighters to tour Australia and NZ

Dave Grohl may have just rocked out at a small Sydney venue with covers band Chevy Metal but the rock star will soon be returning Down Under with his other, more famous, band Foo Fighters.

The rockers will be back to take their rightful place in Australian and New Zealand stadiums early next year with alt-rockers Weezer supporting them for the tour.

In just over a week's time, the Foos are also set to drop their ninth studio album, Concrete and Gold, and by January they'll be here ready to play the new songs live.

The Foo Fighters celebrated their 20th anniversary with a world tour which last brought them Down Under in 2015, playing music from their eighth album Sonic Highways.

Frontman Grohl and bandmate Taylor Hawkins returned to Sydney just last week, performing a special one-off gig with Hawkins' rock covers band Chevy Metal to about 400 people.

In a show that was fast and loose in attitude and performance, the band, which also included Wiley Hodgen (The Birds of Satan) and Brent Woods (Sebastian Bach) ripped through covers from The Rolling Stones, AC/DC, David Bowie together with cheesy rock classics such as The Vapors' track Turning Japanese and The Knack's My Sharona.

For their return in 2018, Grohl and Hawkins will be joined by the rest of the Foo Fighters to play their new music and the hits such as Everlong, Learn To Fly and Best Of You that have helped them net 11 Grammy Awards and sell 25 million records.

The tour will be Weezer's third in Australia and New Zealand and the band, who've been going for 25 years, will release their 11th studio album, Pacific Dreamer, on October 27.

Alongside the massive force that is Weezer, Foo Fighters will have a different local support act at each stop on the bill including The Preatures in Sydney and DZ Deathrays in Brisbane.
