We all know how hot the inside of our cars can get on a hot summers day, but did you know a dog can die in just six minutes if left in a hot car?

Many pet owners are unaware that the temperature inside a vehicle can rise to double the outside temperature, even on mild days. This is despite taking precautions such as parking in the shade or leaving the windows open.

RSPCA Tasmania urges pet-owners to leave their pets at home this summer instead.

Tasmania Police Senior Sergeant Jason Jones joins Fairsy this morning to discuss the fatal issue.

If you witness an animal locked in a hot car, please contact Tasmania Police on 131 444 without delay.
