$75 million of compensation for 129 people formerly held at the Ashley Youth Detention Centre between 1960 and 2023 has been approved in the Supreme Court in Hobart.
The victim-survivors of abuse will also be offered counselling and issued an apology from the Premier.
The payment deal was struck in June and the court formality is the final step.

Ashley Youth Detention Centre featured prominently at a Commission of Inquiry into institutional child abuse in Tasmania and will ultimately close once replacement therapeutic options are in place.
