Bass MP seeks answers over court backlog

Newly appointed Deputy Premier Guy Barnett is being blamed for a massive backlog in Tasmania’s Supreme Court.

The list has grown to almost 900 cases including the trial of three men accused of a murder at George Town two years ago which won’t go to trial this year.

It represents a 20 percent increase in the number of cases waiting to come to court.

Labor Bass MP Janie Finlay sought answers from Mr Barnett in Parliament.

Mr Barnett is also the Attorney General and Justice Minister.

Ms Finlay is accusing the state government of failing to act.
