Big summer of tennis in the north

Five weeks of top level tennis is expected to provide a major boost to the region’s economy.

Tennis fans in the state’s north are in for a big summer, with a junior international tournament to be held alongside the long awaited return of the Launceston International.

There’ll be the same line-up in Burnie.

Liberal Bass MP Simon Wood says it’s thrilling to have a bumper summer of tennis lined up in the north and north west of the state.

“It really is exciting and we’re really looking forward to now is a real festival of tennis,” he said.

“It’s something that’s going to add to the whole buzz of the north of Tasmania over the summer period.”

The state government has provided two million dollars toward the redevelopment of the Launceston Tennis Centre. The new clubhouse facilities are on track to be completed by the end of the year, before the Launceston Junior International on February 3 and Launceston International on February 24.
