City scores award for free Wi-Fi

The City of Launceston has been recognised with a national award for it’s free Wi-Fi.

The award has been made at this week’s local government conference in Canberra.

Mayor Matthew Garwood said it was an honour and a point of pride for the city.

“We’ve provided free Wi-Fi across the city for 10 years now,” he said.

“It goes all the way through our northern suburbs, to the Rocherlea footy club.

“It’s such an important community resource. and we recognise how valued it is.

“We’re not just talking about giving residents access to the internet to check their socials.

“This is about connectivity. This allows our community to engage with all sorts of services from transport schedules to apps that offer safer movement around the city.”
