Launceston Council council has voted to grant planning approval for the municipality’s fourth McDonald’s eatery despite resident concerns around traffic safety.
The approval for the new franchise on the former James Nelson textile mill site at Mowbray will result in Launceston having five within a 5km radius from Civic Square after Meander Valley Council approved a store at Prospect Vale last year.
Fears had been raised for the safety of local school students with the increased traffic.
A spokesperson for applicants Ratio Consultants said the concerns had been addressed and that it had satisfied requirements.
The fast food eatery will be open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
