Launceston’s carols to go ahead

Last minute efforts have saved this year’s Carols by Candlelight in Launceston.

It comes amid calls for an investigation into the decision by organisers to scratch this year’s event at the Silverdome just weeks before Christmas.

The situation prompted Launceston councillor Lindi McMahon to take to social media, rallying the community to get an event, backed by the City of Launceston which will take place on December 22.

Funding has already been secured from a number of sources including unspent events allocations.

Mayor Matthew Garwood said he was pleased the community event would be going ahead and would like to see the City of Launceston take over running it on an ongoing basis to give it stability.
