Longford man blames ‘stupidity’ for his burnout night

A 26-year-old man from Longford has learned the hard way of the cost of late night burnouts on Launceston’s so-called ‘Blockie route’.

Damon Betts has received a 12-month community correction order for what a magistrate described as among the worst offences of their kind that he’d seen.

The court heard at one stage Betts’ actions resulted in his flicking pieces of molten rubber from his tyres onto another car.

Betts pleaded guilty to a range of charges from the incident in March this year.

He has told the court his behaviour was the result of stupidity.
