Assurances have been given to staff at the Launceston General Hospital that no jobs will be lost in kitchen services.
It comes after the state opposition went on the attack this week claiming kitchen services are set to go off site.
Labor says that’s going to have an impact on the quality of food that’s provided to patients.
Minister Jacquie Petrusma addressing claims of privatisation, saying it’s not happening, but stopped short of ruling out going off site.
“At the end of the day this is about modernising the LGH,” she said.
“We want to have better services; we want to have more beds and we want to expand the LGH so that it is fit for purpose.
“It’s a 43-year-old site, so there’s been a late of change in technology and how you prepare food.
“But in the meantime I assure staff we’ve got no intention of privatising the kitchen or food services and that no health services kitchen positions will be lost.
“This is about improving the back-of-house service and that they will be consulted about what is the best decision.”
