The state government is working to identify three new park and rides sites in Launceston.
The facilities will be located in the Legana/West Tamar, Kings Meadows/Youngtown and East Tamar/northern suburbs areas.
Transport Minister Eric Abetz said $20 million will be committed to three new northern park and ride facilities.
“As we work to improve our public transport system, these new park and ride facilities will encourage commuters to jump on board and ease some of the pressure on our main roads during peak hours,” he said.
“Park and Rides have proven highly effective in the south, providing commuters with a comfortable and easy alternative to driving their car into the city centre; now it’s the north’s turn.
“We are identifying suitable locations close to or on high-use transport corridors to ensure the new facilities are in convenient locations.
“Designs will be guided by the successful park and ride facilities in Greater Hobart, along with improved bus stops, bicycle parking, and passenger pick up and drop off areas.
He said concept designs will be released for public consultation.
