Police ramp up patrols in response to jump in shoplifting

An increase in shoplifting at major shopping precincts in Launceston has prompted police to step up high visibility patrols across the city.

Police have increased foot patrols in response to a 30 percent increase in the crime on the same time last year.

They’ve focused their efforts around Launceston’s CBD – particularly the west side which they say has been a recent hotspot.

Other precincts include Mowbray and Kings Meadows.

Police are urging any businesses impacted by criminal activity to contact them.
