Launceston independent MP Rosemary Armitage says she’s concerned for the welfare of patients and staff at the Launceston General Hospital with the north of the state set to sizzle over coming days.
It comes after a patient’s daughter raised the alarm about a lack of air conditioning in the medical and stroke ward, with temperatures reportedly reaching as high as 29 degrees inside the hospital.
Ms Armitage says she’s written to the state government about the lack of air conditioning but received a disappointing response informing her a full retrofit of D-Block would not be occurring as it would require significant bed closures.
She says she was told the use of air conditioning units in individual patient rooms would also be investigated.
Ms ARMITAGE says it’s not acceptable that investigations into the problem are still taking place 8 years after the issue began.
The premier says 4 million is being spent to fix the problem.
