A 37-year-old man has been arrested following an armed standoff with police in the state's north west.
Police were called to a home in Arthur Street, Ocean Vista at around midnight on Wednesday, in regard to a noise complaint.
When they arrived, they found a man with what looked like a gun, which he was threatening to use.
Police attempted to negotiate with him, and brought in the Special Operations Group, negotiators and drones to assist.
“The tactical resolution was employed after the situation escalated in a very short space of time, and after peaceful negotiations were not progressing,” Commander Debbie Williams said.
The man was eventually taken into custody after around four hours, suffering minor injuries during his arrest.
The firearm was later determined to be a replica rifle.
“The use of specialist capabilities in support of general duties police, including Special Operations Group, negotiators and drones, were key to peacefully resolving this incident,” Commander Williams said.
“At no stage was there any threat to a member of the public.”
Burnie Criminal Investigation Branch is now investigating the incident.
