A working smoke alarm has saved a woman's life in the Southern Midlands early on Monday morning.
Police say the 53-year-old was asleep when her home on Springhill Bottom Road at Colebrook caught fire.
An alarm woke the occupant, who called 000 and fled to safety along with her dog.
Local brigades responded but couldn't save the double-storey home which went up in flames along with a car.
The estimated value of the house and vehicle is $600,000 with the entire structure and contents lost in the fire.
