Despite wet and windy conditions Tasmanian-trained horse Up Cups has won the $225,000 Launceston Cup.

The five-year-old gelding narrowly beat Arianne, Schockemohle finishing third.

Up Cups was considered a favourite for the race after taking out the $200,000 Hobart Cup on February 8.

His owners Tasmanian's Brian and Justine Outtram, and Rick and Tina Polley take home an extra $100,000 in prize money for the back-to-back win.

Trainer David Brunton was very happy with the win.

Jockey David Pires rode the horse to victory, giving him 4 wins on the day.

Numbers were down at the track with rain falling throughout the day, but around 10,000 people turned out for the race meeting.
