Launceston detectives are hunting a heartless burglar who targeted a quadriplegic man in an early-morning heist yesterday.

The offender entered the 70-year-old man's house on Gregory Street at Mayfield before fleeing with a large amount of cash.

Police said the victim had an alarm tube he could breathe into when in need of assistance, but the balaclava-wearing bandit pulled the tube out before he had a chance.

“The tube was removed by the offender, preventing the victim from raising the alarm,” Detective Inspector Gary Williams said.

“Police are appalled by the targeting of an at-risk member of the community and are seeking public assistance in identifying the person responsible for this crime,” he said.

Meanwhile two southern Tasmanian men are facing a Hobart Magistrate today over an alleged home invasion at Ellendale late on Wednesday night.

The pair were arrested and charged after police raided homes around Glenorchy.

It's alleged they attacked a man who was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
