Police are continuing the hunt for a 21-year-old man from Maydena, after a dramatic search effort in central Hobart yesterday.
Jake Mark Pearce was arrested early yesterday morning in the Bridgewater area after breaching his bail conditions earlier this year.
He was taken to the Royal Hobart Hospital, at which time he managed to escape authorities, leading to police dispatching the Westpac Rescue Helicopter and a number of specialist officers for an air and ground search in the CBD.
Police are reassuring members of the public that they should not be concerned.
“The police use of the helicopter does not in any way reflect any risk to the wider community," said Inspector Damien George.
“I’d like to reassure the community that there was no risk to the safety of community members while police searched in the Hobart area yesterday, and there is no ongoing risk. I ask anyone who has seen Jake since yesterday afternoon to come forward.”
