Controversial family law system review

Domestic violence support groups are questioning the merits of the controversial Morrison Government's review of Australia's family law system.

It will go ahead after crossbenchers including Jacqui Lambie voted in favour.

Domestic violence campaigners such as Rosie Batty have hit out at the inquiry to be co-chaired by Senator Pauline Hanson, who says some women game the system by making false domestic violence accusations.

Alina Thomas from Engender Equality says the inquiry's unlikely to come up with anything new.

"There's frustration already in the sector" she said. "There's been previous reviews, there's been numerous research prouduced. This is not a new story that is going to be told through this review. It is all talk and no action."

"They really need to be looking at having people in decision-making and leardership positions that have some merit and insight and expertise."
