Additional specialists including speech pathologists and psychologists will be employed in Tasmanian government schools as part of a $6.9 million state government budget commitment.

But it will take more than Education Minister Jeremy Rockliff's Wednesday announcement to make up Tasmania's $85 million shortfall in schools' funding which federal Labor says the state will wear under the Turnbull government's plan.

"I would be amazed if the Tasmanian government filled the funding gap left by the federal government, and that means if they don't put $85 million extra into schools over the next two years, Tasmanian school kids will be worse off," federal Labor education spokeswoman Tanya Plibersek said in Hobart.

Tasmania's Liberal government has previously welcomed news of the schools' funding deal, which it said equals an extra $200 million over the next decade.
